Directorate China Flag

Description

I have been reading Ghost Fleet by P.W. Singer for a while and I have to say for now (I’m currently close to Part 3 as of this post) it’s worth a read if you want a taste of a Third World War being fought in the 21st century. But anyway, I’m quite fascinated by what exactly the flag of China would look like in this universe given that a serious regime change happened prior to the conflict; it’s obviously not as communistic as it was but it was mentioned that the regime uses a red star on some of its vehicles so that gives me a hint about what the flag should look like.

Sharing the same red background as the PRC one aside, the Directorate regime should have something to ideologically distinguish itself but yet is a dictatorial one given that its basically today’s PRC without the communism stuff. So henceforth I have decided on giving the flag a fascist touch with the Chinese phoenix (aka the Fenghuang) being stylized (and I should note that this is my first time doing something of that scale when it comes to animals on flags) and the sun behind the creature symbolizing a new future for China. That and putting a Chinese character for “prosperity” above it because well the space it’s occupying is otherwise quite bare so to say. As for the bars surrounding the creature it’s to represent the rivers of China with the yellow one highlighting the historical importance of the Yellow River.

Ghost Fleet is property of PW Singer, this flag is a product of just yours truly.

Ghost Fleet was frankly a disappointment in many regards but I do enjoy this flag! It's been years since I read it but IIRC the Directorate flag was described as being yellow (perhaps a spin on the old Qing-era flag?) -- that said, the design here definitely seems more visually interesting. Nice work!
